Stemlet splits a song into vocals and instrumental, or vocals, drums, bass and the rest, on your iPhone. Three songs are free. After that, one payment lets you split as many as you like.
Splitting
Which songs can I split?
Any song you have as a file: in Files, in iCloud Drive, sent by AirDrop or saved from a message. Tap Choose a song and pick it, or choose Photos & videos to use the sound from a video. You can also open a file in another app, tap Share and choose Stemlet.
Stemlet works on a copy, so the original file is never changed.
Why can’t I split songs from Apple Music or Spotify?
Songs from streaming services are copy-protected. Even when they’re downloaded for offline listening, only that service’s app can play them, so Stemlet can’t open them, and neither can any other app.
Songs you’ve bought as downloads aren’t protected, and neither are your own recordings. If you have the file, save it to Files and choose it from there.
How long does a split take?
On a recent iPhone, about a minute for a 3-minute song. Older iPhones and longer songs take longer. Once it has an estimate, the Splitting screen shows how long is left.
Each song is split once. Opening it again, changing the mix or exporting is instant.
Do I need to keep Stemlet open while it splits?
Yes. iPhone apps can use the graphics chip only while they’re on screen, and that’s what does the splitting. Stemlet keeps the screen awake until the split finishes.
If you switch to another app or lock your iPhone, the split may stop. Tap the song in your Library to start it again. A split that doesn’t finish never uses up a free song.
Which iPhones does it work on?
Any iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Splitting needs about 1.6 GB of memory while it runs, so it works best on iPhones with 6 GB or more: the iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro models, and iPhone 14 and later. On iPhones with less memory, close other apps before you split. If memory runs out, Stemlet says so, and the split doesn’t count.
Stems take room too: about 40 MB per stem for a 4-minute song. Deleting a song from your Library frees its space.
How clean is the split?
Very clean on most songs, but not perfect. A little of one part can come through in another, especially on busy mixes, live recordings and heavy effects.
Where do exported files go?
Tap Export, choose a stem or the mix, and M4A or WAV. The share sheet opens: choose Save to Files, AirDrop or any app. The mix is exported with your volumes, mutes and speed.
Does my music leave my iPhone?
No. Splitting happens on your iPhone, with the separation model built into the app, so it works in airplane mode. Stemlet collects no data. Your music only goes somewhere else when you export or share it there yourself. The privacy policy has the details.
Free songs and paying
What’s free?
Your first three songs, split in full. Opening, mixing and exporting them stays free for good, and so does splitting the same song into the other stem set.
The same song brought in again counts as the same song, so deleting it and adding it back doesn’t use another free song. A cancelled or failed split doesn’t count either.
What happens after three songs?
Your fourth song is split as a 30-second preview first, with the vocals muted, so you can hear it before you decide. To split the whole song, and every song after it, pay once.
How much does it cost?
One in-app purchase of £14.99 in the UK and US$14.99 in the US. Other countries see their local price in the App Store. It’s one payment, not a subscription: nothing renews, and there’s no account.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings in Stemlet and tap Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. It works on every iPhone signed in to that account, including a new one.
Does Family Sharing work?
Yes. If you’re in a Family Sharing group, the people in it can split as many songs as they like on their own iPhones without paying again. If it doesn’t show straight away, they can tap Restore purchase in Settings.
Can I get a refund?
Apple handles payments and refunds, so I can’t issue them myself. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and choose Stemlet.
